Ground floor retail in historic shopfront plus 30 new apartments
Commercial Row was built in the late 19 th century and formed part of the "high street" style commercial precinct of New Canterbury Road . Petersham. More recently the shop fronts had become disused and derelict. The re-development of the site allowed for the restoration and adaptive re-use of the existing buildings, together with 30 new contemporary apartments to create a revitalised commercial / residential precinct.
The apartments have been constructed above the shops and on the land at the rear of the building, which was to have been turned over to a Council car park, and were designed and massed to complement the traditional row housing in the streets behind New Canterbury Rd.
The project has discretely consolidated the residential capacity of the precinct and reinforced its traditional building fabric while enhancing the local Portuguese identity and lifestyle.
