The facility was originally designed for Utilux, a long established Australian company that specializes in the design and manufacture of electrical components. They required new premises to house their R & D facilities, laboratory, manufacturing, distribution and administrative facilities.

The building was designed to reflect the company's technological edge but still complement the traditional architecture of the adjoining Cork building.
