Located in the heart of Paddington, Paddington Central is a prestigious apartment and commercial development , built on derelict land at the crest of the Oxford Street ridge. A six level, stepped residential development and a two storey, commercial development on a roughly L-shaped site, it forms the southern and eastern borders respectively of the heritage listed Paddington Reservoir on Oxford Street . Unashamedly modern, it addresses its architectural context in the abstract - matching parapet lines and the rhythm and proportions of surrounding Victorian and more contemporary buildings, while simultaneously utilising high-tech materials and geometry.

The development was undertaken in two stages to overcome planning constraints and facilitate the financing of the development.

The design has capitalised on the opportunities and restrictions of its urban setting. Crossover unit plans ideally suited the site of the project. Living spaces have been located on the northern frontage where they benefited from good light and the outlook over the historic reservoir and to the city in the distance. Bedrooms have been located on the southern edge where they have distant views of the southern suburbs of Sydney .

The apartments are generally one and two bedroom, each with floor to ceiling glassed en suites in the master bedrooms, and open plan kitchen, dining and living areas. The interiors are clean and simply detailed. Living spaces have been integrated with balconies to provide a continuous and uninterrupted floor plane. Soundproofed timber floors and set plaster, concrete walls enhance the sense of solidity and privacy within the apartments.

The latest electronic, security, computer access and entertainment systems have been integrated into the design of the apartments. For example, it will be possible to remotely open the front door of an apartment from anywhere in the world.
