Sunlit Colours – Fly
Forbo’s winner Winning the 2005 ‘Fly Forbo
& Fly Free to Europe’ award run in conjunction
with the Interior Design Awards, is Sydney
architectural design company Nordon Jago for a
staggeringly different fitout that meets the needs
of its client in new ways.
The brief for this unique
project involved a meld of Leigh Jones’
orthodontic practice and an artist’s studio for
his wife, in Mosman, New South
Wales.
“Nordon Jago has created a truly
sophisticated and convention-defying environment
that is welcoming and engaging through its use of
warm colours, touchable surfaces and organic
shapes,” says Angus Fotheringhame, managing
director of Forbo
Flooring.
Marmoleum was selected for its
outstanding colour palette and pleasing textures
that worked perfectly with the design that
incorporates organic shapes through flooring,
cabinetry (which artfully conceals implements of
the trade) and ethereal
lighting.
Add a futuristic glowing
circular arrival desk and original artworks and
the result is a clinic with a sophisticated yet
informal, almost club-like atmosphere. Visual
stimulation is everywhere, providing patients with
plenty of non-orthodontic thoughts to occupy and
calm their mind.
Project director and architect
Richard Stone chose Marmoleum “for a combination
of everything it offers, but primarily its
environmentally friendly attributes coupled with
an amazing colour range,” he
said.
“Marmoleum’s colours are
brilliant, and it has a low gloss level which is
aesthetically pleasing, more like natural
stone.
“Marmoleum also has a lovely
tactility, and personally I like the delicate,
natural scent when first laid – a subtle reminder
of linseed, one of its natural
ingredients.
“Add to this its environmental
pedigree, the fact that it doesn’t off-gas, and
its bacteriostatic nature, and we find we often
specify Marmoleum,” he said.
Richard accepts the award for
the company, which includes flights,
accommodation, spending money, tickets to 100 %
Design in London later this year and a visit to
Forbo's Design Studio in
Amsterdam.
